Heart Transplant - June 2000

My name is Lois N. Spiller.  I am the first living recipient of the Jarvik 2000.  This device was used as a bridge to transplant.  I received my heart transplant on June 28, 2000.  79 days after receiving the Jarvik 2000.  I have had only minor complications since.

I thank the Lord for a second chance at life.  I am a member of Heavenly Star Baptist Church. 

I work in the community with the older adults at the Pilgrim Center in the 3rd. Ward area of Houston and also at the TSU Center on Aging with Caregivers Education and Training. 

I volunteer for the Life Gift Organ Donation Center, Heart exchange Support Group at St. Luke’s Hospital, AARP #4959 (Sponsored through TSU), the National Emancipation Association and also the Harris County Council of Organizations.
